I first visited Miami when I was six years old, and that trip would change my life forever. Although I was quite young, I was awe-struck by this different world where everything was big, beautiful, bright, and a bit closer to Disney World. That first visit would go on to define my life-long dream (now a reality) of moving to the United States.
During our family trips, our Miami itinerary would consist of visiting family, spending entire days at the outlet malls, and driving to Orland to visit the amusement parks. So I was thrilled to discover, albeit many years later, the wonderful, exuberating city that Miami is and everything it has to offer. Here are my favorite places to stay, eat, and visit:
Eat at:
-Have brunch at Cecconi's or Swan: If you are staying in Miami Beach, the Cecconi's at Soho Beach House is a great brunch alternative. Located on the club's ground floor, this Venetian restaurant will charm you with its alluring terrace and lively ambiance. I, of course, tried the mimosa and the prosciutto stracciatella truffle toast.
If you are closer to the Design District, try Swan. Besides its cute décor, I was mesmerized by the food quality. I highly recommend the Swan Ceasar (so fresh and crispy), and the short rib fusilli, with exceptional flavor and tenderness.

-Have lunch at Casa Tua: Casa Tua has become a Miami staple that everyone recommends. I try to avoid clichés but this restaurant's reputation is well-deserved. While it has many locations, I grabbed casual lunch at Casa Tua Cucina in Brickell, where it is easier to be accommodated. I tried the popular truffle pasta (or officially, the fettuccine with black truffle) and it was simply *chef's kiss*.

-Have dinner at La Mar, Call Me Gaby or Zit Sum: If you are in the Brickell/Downtown area, get reservations at La Mar, located at the Mandarin Oriental. At this restaurant by world-acclaimed Peruvian chef Gaston Acurio, everything you try will be delicious. I highly recommend the cocktails (I had the chicha morada pisco) and trying out different small plates like the tostadas.
Dinner a La Mar
Call me Gaby picked my attention while wandering around South Beach. I loved the patio (which they accurately call "magical garden"), its decoration and the overall vibe. Me and my boyfriend still keep this dinner in high regard, as the food, drinks, and service were spectacular and we had a wonderful time at the restaurant. I will never forget their fiocchetti all pere e tartufo (pasta with truffle carpaccio and caramelized pear) and the Andrea pizza. For cocktails, we got the Cardinale and the Lychee Italiano.
Zit Sum is this hidden Asian and dim sum spot in Coral Gables that will have you puzzled at first, because it is literally inside an office building. But fear not, it is an eclectic and cool spot with spectacular food. Although everything we tried was incredible, I will never forget the tuna tartare, simply one of the best tartares and plates I have ever tried!
Have dessert at Aubi & Ramsa or Madlab Creamery at the Design District: I found both to be delicious! Aubi Ramsa's alcohol infused sorbets are a refreshing and fun for a hot day, my favorite being strawberries + rosé, chocolate azteca, and Japanese pearl drop. And Madlab's rich and flavorful gelatos are the perfect indulgence. I had a pastel gloria and Nutella cup and it was unbelievably good.
Stay at:
The Biltmore at Coral Gables: This is the most regal hotel I have ever stayed at and one of my favorites. This National Historic Landmark Building was built almost a century ago, and it preserves the elegance of times past.
Although my favorite area was the pool, the lobby and golf course are well-worth checking out. Not to mention the rooms, which were spacious, tasteful, and highly comfortable.
Visit:
-Vizcaya Museum and Gardens: If you have a free morning, I highly recommend visiting Vizcaya. I was in awe of the diverse gardens, the lagoons, and the architecture of the buildings that form this villa. General admission tickets are USD 25, and it was so worth it. Just take a look for yourself:
-Perez Museum of Art: I ended up in this museum on my own on a rainy afternoon. The PAMM defines itself as a modern and contemporary museum featuring the works of Latin American and Latinx communities, Caribbean and African artists and diaspora, and Miami-based creators. My favorite pieces were those filled with color and life retelling stories of acceptance and diversity, like the ones below.
-Design District: I love walking around the District and wandering around the stores, sculptures, and restaurants. I was lucky to coincide with Espacio Vogue, a fashion fair to highlight upcoming Latino designers, during my first visit. I highly recommend giving it a shot. You will find unique pieces, such as my favorite bag by the Colombian brand Yidios Hakim.
Hope you enjoy these recommendations!
