And who am I?

Updated: Aug 17

Hi, everyone!

My name is Daniela, and I am the Colombian, 28-year-old royal mess behind this blog. I started this project two years ago, so this introduction was a bit overdue.

As the name will let on, I have always been obsessed with royalty and pageants. And, you could say I am a functional mess – that person who seemingly has things together but is always going through some turbulence that ends up being kind of philosophical or kind of hilarious.

But my real passion is connecting with people and creating relationships. For that reason, I pursued a career in International Relations and PR that has been extremely rewarding. Meeting interesting people, working for governments and international organizations, and fostering culture and innovation, has been a true joy.

In my free time, I enjoy singing and listening to music [anything from country to Italian pop, from Celine Dion to Duda Beat], reading, writing, and traveling. I also love dancing, learning languages, visiting museums and art exhibits, and meeting up with friends to try out new restaurants and experiences.

I know life can be messy – from work, to relationships, to times of leisure. So, in here, I try to untangle the mixed emotions that you might be familiar with, as well as provide tips to make other experiences [like traveling or creating new habits] easier and more enjoyable.

A lot of the anxiety we have every day comes from feeling isolated in the situations we face. So, A Royal Mess aims to become that place when you can find answers, or at least, someone who gets you. A space of authenticity, kindness, and positivism, mixed with jokes and things that make life more bearable.

I hope you find what you are looking for in here. And if you do not, I hope you let me know.

In the meantime, here are some random facts about me:

· My first CD was Dangerously in Love by Beyoncé. The first CDs that made a huge impact in me were Ashlee Simpson’s Autobiography and Joss Stone’s Mind, Body, and Soul. But I was forever changed by Celine Dion and Hilary Duff, whom I admire up to this day for entirely different qualities.

· I love re-watching shows and movies that make me feel good. I have lost count of the times I have watched Legally Blonde, Gossip Girl, The Mindy Project, How I Met your Mother, and the Bold Type.

· I love flowers. People think roses are my favorite, but I love peonies the most.

· Up until this point in life, my favorite city is Athens, although I know I still have plenty of the world left to see – and I can’t wait to do it.

· I am not your average animal-loving person. But I love Snoopy, my cousin’s dog like I’ve never loved another one before.

· Growing up, I wanted to be a veterinarian [ironic], a dentist, a painter, a professional ice-skater, an astronaut, a diplomat, and what my 11-year-old-self described as a “diva”: a singer, actress, dancer – basically, your favorite celebrity that can do it all. I still do not give up on this dream.

· My all-time favorite books are Les Misérables, Love in the Time of Cholera, and In the Time of the Butterflies.

· Washington, DC was the first city that felt like home. I love its cultural and gastronomic offer, the interesting people I constantly cross paths with, and how much it changes with every season. I really enjoy its winter – very mild for other parts of the country – the cold, the snow, the specialty drinks. All of it.

· You will always catch me wearing sunglasses and drinking something – probably coffee, frosé, wine, or margaritas.

Since you know a little bit more about me now, I think it’s only fair that I get to know more about you. Tell me three random facts about you in the comment section below.

I look forward to seeing more of you!

Love,

Daniela
