It is kind of strange to recommend shows for a day meant to gather and celebrate. But as health remains our priority in these strange times, TV is an escape from which I personally like to receive happiness and positivity only. If staying at home has accentuated feelings like, say, missing people who have left, feeling nostalgic about not seeing our partners or friends, or simply feeling relieved to be single, here are a couple solutions to lift up your spirit:
Normal People

Back in summer ’20, there was quite a buzz around this book, which I did not like too much. However, I took a chance at the show and I was so glad I did it: the amazing portrayals of Daisy-Edgar Jones and Paul Mescal are only matched by mesmerizing photography and mind-blowing locations, from Ireland to Sweden and Italy.
I promise you will find yourself amazed by each of the 12-episodes of this Irish production centered about the lives of Colin and Marian as they navigate young love with its uncertainty, recklessness, and a bit of embarrassment.

Modern Love

This 8-episode series is based on the famous NY Times Sunday-column. Per its name, you can correctly assume these articles are written by real people that have experienced love in our current times, each from different angles.
Its episodes are short, each centered around a different story, so you do not have to watch in order. Some stories are far from-average, others all-too relatable. Most importantly, you will find among its actors the likes of Anne Hathaway, Dev Patel, Andy Garcia, Tina Fey, Cristin Milioti and even Ed Sheeran, all with a background of a dashing New York.

The Mindy Project

This has to be my favorite show I watched in the last year. Mindy Kaling, a genius if you ask me, created this show back in 2012 and, throughout its 6 seasons, it never fails to deliver incontrollable laughs.
I am always amazed at how she and the writers mix the right amount of cliches with unique situations, creating as a result the most hilarious GIFs (which, if you follow me on any social network, you will always catch me using). Watch this for celebrity cameos, cringeworthy moments, fashion serves and wondering how one finds so many romantic prospects that easily.

This Is Us

If you are missing your family and feel a little nostalgic today, you need to watch This is Us. This drama about family chains, as my cousin accurately described it, reminds us the importance of knowing our past and that of our relatives so we can accept the beyond-us factors that can have an incidence in our futures.
The characters will make you feel wholesome, adoring, and you will probably end up crying in some episodes or calling someone and telling them you love them.

Never Have I Ever

I do not exaggerate when I say this show is one of the funniest things you will watch. While this teen comedy is evidently is about actors significantly younger than you and me, its situations do not fail to captivate the audience and, guess what: it is loosely based around Mindy Kaling’s high school experience (yes, I love her and I consume everything she produces).
The show portrays the life of Devi (portrayed by Canadian actress Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), an Indian-American teenager who recently lost her dad and, while still grieving, tries to figure out friendships, romance and family traditions, all with a touch of fine millennial humor.
